To understand the garments that Givenchy has
presented in the latest collections for this 2021 it is necessary to
know the trajectory of the firm's last years in terms of creative directors
because, although they must always follow the general lines set by the company,
each designer brings his personal touch to collections.
Looking back a bit, we can remember when in February
2005 Riccardo Tisci was appointed creative director of the French firm's
haute couture, accessories and ready-to-wear lines . The Italian
designer, graduated in London, was able to modernize and obscure the style of
the creator, Hubert Givenchy, but without losing its essence. It was Tisci
who resurrected the sweatshirt , the mixture of cultures and urban
styles, and who again opted for panther , virgin and baroque
prints .
In 2017, she left Givenchy to focus on her own passions
and gave way to the bohemian, bright and feminine style of British designer
Clare Waight Keller, the first woman to run the firm in its 65-year history.
The American Matthew Williams made his debut as director
of the brand last fall, in one of the great fashion capitals, in
Paris. Williams is known for being the founder of the streetwear brand
Alyx and has been chosen to lead the creative department in order to get the
millennial and Generation Z audiences closer to the brand.
The three seasons presented for this year 2021, together
with the one presented last autumn 2020 in Paris, have been the first stagings
of the young designer,

Will you be able to achieve the goal set by Givenchy?
This campaign, characterized by its forcefulness, has a total of 45 garments. It was the second collection signed by Williams, as a continuation and consolidation of the previously established bases.
The main pieces on which Givenchy this season revolves
are the following:
Jacket suits: after the success of the previous
collection, Givenchy has once again bet on tailoring, this time in basic tones,
although they have also dared for sets in red. The best of these total
looks? That despite the formality that goes hand in hand with jacket
suits, Williams has wanted to give an original twist to the pieces, going
beyond the traditional lines, such as with ankle-length trousers or risking the
design of the lapels.
Tight dresses : one of the examples of the
forcefulness of the collection is defined by the silhouettes of the dresses,
especially in those designs that reach the floor, as well as certain skirts
with the same length. In these garments, the firm has opted for a very
precise color palette, from white tones, to different shades of black, passing
through some neutrals such as khaki green or light gray and with a touch of
color thanks to red and, how no, this year's color, pink.
Short jackets : piece that has been defined as the
counterpoint to what we were used to in recent seasons, where these types of
garments were designed in oversize sizes .
Studded jackets and clogs : this style perfectly
defines the trend of the brand's new designer, without forgetting the memory
left by the great Riccardo Tisci. Short leather jackets, similar in style
to bikers, with studs were a cry when it came to windbreakers.
Bags : Givenchy's bags from the Pre-Fall 2021 season
were defined by their strict shape, with a rectangular silhouette and long
handles, many of them accompanied by links, they are the ideal piece to
complete any look. The best and most characteristic thing is its mode of
use, as if it were a handbag.
Spring-summer 2021
Givenchy's campaign for this spring 2021 can be
identified by the clear decision to show the designs immediately on social
networks, especially on Instagram.
The characteristic garments of this collection fuse
the avant-garde, with modern craftsmanship and a revolutionary culture ,
centering the chromatic range between white, gray and black tones .
Despite the fact that many of the shows that have been
held in recent months have been done virtually, Givenchy has chosen to carry
out the presentation of the spring-summer 2021 season in person, at La Défense
Arena in Paris.
Among the most notorious characteristics of the presented
looks we find a touch of science fiction , which links perfectly with
the designer Matthew Williams' own signature.
The fetish garments that we will see in the coming
months, signed by the Givenchy brand, will be two-piece suits with
blazers, long blouses, jackets and colored tops .
Autumn-winter 2021/2022
The dynamics carried out in the previous presentation of
Givenchy garments will start again after the autumn-winter 2021/2022
catwalk and will be shown, immediately after the show, through social
networks, once again achieving the objective that the firm had imposed on
Williams, a wake-up call to the new generations and
What better way to do it than in its natural habitat?
Givenchy's key pieces for the colder season of this year
2021 and early 2022 will be defined by leather and synthetic hair ,
especially in outerwear. We will see jackets, leather gloves and XXL
hoods with hair inside as star garments and fabulous glossy wedges in
red in the purest Lady Gaga style . The culmination of the risk of
the season? The sandals in black leather , will you dare to wear
them?
And so far the catalog of beautiful and incredible trends that the prestigious French firm has brought us for this, at least curious, 2021. What piece would you baptize as the main definition of Williams's new style? I believe that, without a doubt, what is defining his journey at Givenchy is not only the garments he designs, but the management model, such as the rapid jump from the catwalks to Instagram that he has carried out in recent shows.
